Barbara Salaam Wegmüller
Barbara Salaam Wegmüller, was born in Bern, Switzerland in 1952. Since her early years she loved to listen to life stories of ordinary people and to read and listen to the life stories of mystics. In her practice as a medical chiropodist she listened for fifteen years to the life stories of her patients.
As a mother of five children she studied the concept of human beings from Rudolf Steiner and the archetype in fairytales, and used both to influence the way she educated her children. With her small children she practiced mindful daily work taught by Thich Nhat Hanh. Today she loves to spend time with her wonderful grandchildren.
From 1990 she practiced ten years of contemplative studies and yoga meditation practice with the Sufi teacher Annette Kaiser. In the 1999 she met her teacher Roshi Bernie Glassman at the Bearing Witness retreat in Auschwitz. She is a Buddha Seat Holder and a Circle Dharma Holder in his lineage. Since several years, she belongs to the Spirit Holders in the yearly Bearing Witness retreat in Auschwitz.
Barbara Salaam received transmission as Preceptor in the Zen Peacemaker Sangha from her Preceptor Teacher Sensei Eve Myonen Marko.
She led small council groups, for eight years in the retreat in Auschwitz. As a founder member she joined the study and the development of the Zen Peacemaker Order in Europe and later the development of the Zen Peacemaker Circles. Today she is working as the Coordinator of the Zen Peacemaker Circles in Europe.
She is a supporter of the Palestinian Center for the Study of Non-Violence in Bethlehem Palestine. In Switzerland, she is involved and connected with Moslem women.
She was a member of the organization committee of the yearly Buddhist-Christian days of Dialogue in Lassalle - House in Bad Schönbrunn for several years and she belongs to the group of the Peace-table in Zürich.
Barbara Salaam offers weekly Zazen practice, Days of Reflection, Zen Circle Practice and as a Preceptor, studies of Zen Peacemaker Precepts. She supports people on the path to receive the ceremony of precepts In the Zen Peacemakers Sangha.
