Joe is the husband of Claire Sullivan and father of three daughters: Kristen, Kendra and Kayla, and resident of the Earth. He is founder and current CEO of Meadowbrook Lane Capital, a self-described socially responsible/sustainable investment bank specializing in mission driven succession. Meadowbrook Lane recently purchased the controlling interest in CSRwire. CSRwire distributes corporate socially responsible news and reports to journalists, analysts, investors and academics. Meadowbrook Lane plans on using the wire as a 'platform' for the development of a 'private exchange' connecting capital and management while introducing creative financial instruments to mission driven companies and non profits. Joe has bought and sold nineteen of his own companies and was also the founder and President of Marty's Juice Creations. Marty's designed and developed proprietary fruit beverage formulas and technologies to dispense fruit beverages at food service locations. The elimination of bottles, cans, packaging, and refrigeration saved 50,880 trees, 20,966,400 gallons of water, 9,974 cubic yards of landfill space, 12,579,840 kwh of energy, and 179,712 pounds of effluents from polluting the air in 1994. Since that time, the technology has impacted the environment beyond expectations. The Pepsi Cola Company purchased the formulas, technology and brand for distribution worldwide. Joe is one of the incorporators, founders, and Board Member Emeritus of the Bank of Western Massachusetts. The FDIC commercial bank was formed to meet the needs of small businesses in Western Massachusetts. The bank has over $500 million on deposit and $450 million loaned exclusively to small businesses in Western Massachusetts. The bank acts as an incubator and advisor to small business and was recently acquired by the Chittenden Bank of Vermont. Chittenden is listed on the New York Stock Exchange as CHZ. He is an underwriter and leader of the anti-casino effort for the State of Massachusetts. The casino interests have spent over one million dollars encouraging voters and lobbying the Legislature to legalize Casino Gaming. The anti-casino effort was headquartered at Gasoline Alley, published a private newspaper and conducted an awareness campaign opposing casino gambling in economically depressed urban communities. The public awareness campaign developed during these campaigns is now embraced and used by the National Coalition Against Casino Gaming. Up to this point, the Massachusetts Legislature has not legalized Casino Gaming. Joe is also a founder of the Gasoline Alley Foundation, a 501(c)3 corporation designed to teach inner-city and/or underprivileged persons to be successful entrepreneurs using socially responsible/sustainable business practices while revitalizing inner city neighborhoods. Gasoline Alley is an old tank farm industrial area of Springfield, MA. Currently, there are seven for profit and two non profit companies in the program. Among the participants are the Pioneer Valley Habitat for Humanity, the Center for Ecological Technology and the Center for Harmony. Gasoline Alley has incubated forty three companies since its inception. He is also a Board member of the Social Venture Network, Springfield Technical Community College, The Security Group among others. He is working on a book called What I Learned Hanging at the Corner, lessons from a street kid turned entrepreneur. |
