General Information: Overview: : History Index : 1999 ZPO Gathering This ZPO Gathering was held at Wisdom House in Litchfield Connecticut on January 12 - 17, 1999. Peter Cunningham has created a display of photos from this gathering OverviewDiscussion of Zen Peacemaker Order The gathering served as an introduction to the Zen Peacemaker Order - its observances, vision, mission and values. Led by Roshi Bernie Glassman and the founding teachers of the Order, including Joan Jiko Halifax, Pat Enkyo O'Hara, Eve Myonen Marko and Grover Genro Gauntt. Additional teachers included Nancy Mujo Baker, Fr. Niklaus Jinshu Brantschen, Sr. Pia Jinshu Gyger, Fr. Robert Jinsen Kennedy, Sr. Janet Jinne Richardson, Sr. Rosalie Jishin McQuade, Charles Birx, Ellen Birx, Fred Jitsudo Ancheta, Lou Mitsunen Nordstrom and Claude Anshin Thomas. The gathering included morning and evening meditations, group meetings, seminar/plenary sessions and council work. The ongoing development and formation of the Order was shared with large and small group discussions around themes of vision, tenets, observances, training, membership and social action. There was a special track for those not yet installed into the Order with an Installation Ceremony at the conclusion. Sensei Eve Myonen Marko discussed the meaning and relevance of the ZPO main service, the Gate of Sweet Nectar. The ZPO teachers (Dharma Holders, Senseis and Roshis) gathered to meet each other and to discuss issues. Transmission of Teachers and Priests Roshi Bernie Glassman gave Dharma Transmission (Sensei) to Dharmaholders Grover Genro Gauntt, Joan Jiko Halifax, Eve Myonen Marko and Lou Mitsunen Nordstrom and to Sr. Pia Jinji Gyger and Fr. Niklaus Jinshu Brantschen. He also completed the Dharma Transmission for Sensei Jitsudo Ancheta who then gave Dharma Transmission to Sydney Musai Walters. Roshi Kennedy completed the Dharma Transmission for Charles and Ellen Birx. Roshi Richardson completed Dharma Transmission for Sr. Rosalie Jishin McQuade. Roshi Bernie Glassman also transmitted Inka (Roshi) to Senseis Sandra Jishu Holmes, Lex Jikai Hixon, Niklaus Jinshu Brantschen, Pia Jinji Gyger and Joan Jiko Halifax. Joan Halifax is also a teacher in the Tiep Tien Order. Pia Gyger, founder of St. Katharina-Werk in Basel Switzerland is also a Dharma Successor of Roshi Robert Choten Aitken. Niklaus Brantschen, leader of Lassalle House in Bad Shönbrunn, Switzerland is also a Dharma Successor of Roshi Koun Yamada of Kamakura. Pia, Niklaus, Jishu and Bernie, have been working together since 1993. Bernie also gave Sheila Jinen Hixon, Ken Tetsuji Byalin, Francisco Genkoji Lugoviña and Dianne Soshin Shainberg the title of Dharmaholder. He empowered Byalin, Francisco Genkoji Lugoviña and Dianne Soshin Shainberg, Michael Daigu O'Keefe, Claude AnShin Thomas and Sally Sonin Kealy as ZPO Priests. Farewell
