At the Zen Peacemaker Board Meeting held at the Mother House in Montague, Ma on May 3, 2005, Roshi Pat Enkyo O'Hara was chosen by Roshi Bernie Glassman as Co-Spiritual Director of the Zen Peacemaker Order. This appointment was unanimously ratified by the ZP Board. Bernie expressed his delight in this ratification and his joy in having the ZPO stated value of partnership being realized in the Spiritual Director role.

On May 4, Enkyo and Bernie were acknowledged in a ritual developed by leaders of the Zen Peacemaker Sangha as Co-Directors. The ceremony honored the concept of partnership and was blessed by the Elder of ZPS.







Role of the Spiritual Co-Directors in ZPO

  1. Maintain the spirit of the ZPO promise, mission and vision.
  2. Set up initial formative structures, standards, policies, empowerments, ceremonies and liturgy for the ZPO.
  3. Appoint committees to continue the formative work.
  4. Advise the Executive Director of the ZPO on various matters as regards vision and direction.
  5. Sign documents attesting to the empowerments awarded members and attesting to the status of ZPO practice, training, and service sites.
  6. Adjucate final Appeals on judicial matters pertaining to empowerments and site status.
  7. Retain veto power over empowerments, site status, training practices, liturgy and institutional development as relates to maintaining the spirit of the ZPO promise, mission and vision.
