HOMAGE TO BUDDHA'S RELICS

translated by: Roshi Bernie Glassman

Wholeheartedly pay homage
to the ten thousand virtues of the absolute Shakyamuni Tathagata.
Buddha's relics are Body and Mind.
Body-Mind is the Dharma Body of Original Nature, is the stupa of the Dharma realm.
We reverently bow.
Buddha appears for my sake.
Buddha enters me and I enter Buddha.
Owing to Buddha we are maintaining it. I attain enlightenment
and with Buddha's miraculous powers all creations are benefited
and raise the enlightened mind.
Practice the Bodhisattva's practice and equally enter perfect Nirvana,
the great wisdom of equality.
Now: I respectfully bow.

"Bowing to the relics"

translated by Francis Dojun Cook-- October, 1978

With one mind we respectfully bow to the relics of the true body of the Tathagata Shakyamuni,
who is completely endowed with infinite merits,
whose Dharma Body is his intrinsic ground,
and whose stupa is the whole universe.
With deep respect we pay reverence to him
who for our sakes manifested a body.
He includes us within himself and we include him within us.
Taking on the added power of the Buddha,
we attain enlightenment.
Due to the Buddha's miracul6us powers,
all beings are benefited,
they arouse the aspiration for enlightenment,
cultivate the practices of the Bodhisattva,
and equally enter perfect nirvana and universal great wisdom.
We now respectfully bow before him.
